Competitors

The competitor brands your project benchmarks against — configure them once, every analysis uses them.

SEO → Competitors manages the competitor set for the active project. This is the reference list that share of voice, gap analyses and benchmarks are computed against — configure it early.

Adding competitors

Add a competitor with name + domain (e.g. Hetzner / hetzner.com). You can also add brand aliases (common misspellings, short forms) so mention detection counts "hetzner cloud" as a Hetzner mention too. Optionally set the domain your own site should be compared against in domain metrics.

Competitors are per project: an agency can track different competitor sets per client site.

Competitor matrix

The matrix shows, per competitor:

  • SERP overlap — how many of your tracked keywords they also rank for,
  • average position on the overlapping set,
  • their presence across your stored SERP snapshots.

This tells you who you actually fight with in the SERPs — which is often not who you think of as a business competitor.

Missing keywords

For a selected competitor: the keywords they rank for and you don't (or rank poorly on), with volume and their position. This is the raw input the Keyword Gap analysis organizes.

Finding competitors automatically

If you don't know who to add, let the data decide: SERP Analytics → discovery surfaces domains that repeatedly share your SERPs, with overlap keywords and a competition score. Promote the ones that make sense into this tracked list.

Competitors also power GEO

The same competitor brands drive AI share of voice and the AI benchmarks: "who is winning AI answers in my category" is measured against this list. Keep aliases accurate — SOV is only as good as brand-name matching.
